WAKE UP (OH, SLEEPER)

Wake Up (Oh, Sleeper) :: TRIBE & TONGUE from TRIBE & TONGUE on Vimeo.

Wake up oh sleeper
Rise from the darkness
Come and be drenched with light

But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.  This is why it is said:

“Wake up, sleeper,
    rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”

Be very careful, then, how you live —not as unwise but as wise...  Ephesians 5: 13-15

Those who are thirsty
There's living water
Come and be filled with life

Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Issiah 55:1

Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them. John 7:38

Heaven is pouring
And He is restoring
All our brokenness

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.  Isaiah 61:1-3

Freedom is calling
And our chains are falling
To the feet of the King

You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free... Galatians 5:13

He brought them out of darkness, the utter darkness, and broke away their chains. Psalm 107:14

Only You
Only You
Only You can make me whole

The clouds are rolling
Full of His glory
The earth, it shakes below

The Lord wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters. He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind. He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants. Psalm 104:2-4

Lift up your voice and
declare His power
So all the world will know

At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. Isaiah 6:4

Heaven is pouring
And He is restoring
All our brokenness

Freedom is calling
And our chains are falling
To the feet of the King

Only You
Only You
Only You can make me whole

Wake up... Wake up... Wake up... Wake up... Wake up... Wake up...
After the song was finished, we were playing through it, and when we reached the end we just lingered for a bit.  This part just flowed out.  It's so very simple, but it really struck a chord in our hearts.  We could feel ourselves singing it prophetically over our own hearts, and the hearts of those who are broken, those who are trapped in sin, those who are weary, those who are complacent, those who feel stuck, and those who are thirsty for more.

This song is a call for us all to step out into light, to dip ourselves into the river of living water, to be drenched in his goodness, to drink from His endless well, to wake from a passive sleep, to shake off the old ways, to have a new thought, to have a renewed mind, to let go of chains that have already been broken for us, and to worship at the feet of the King.

I WON'T BE SHAKEN

Psalm 16:8
I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

Psalm 21:7
For the king trusts in the Lord; through the unfailing love of the Most High he will not be shaken.

Psalm 62:6
Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.

So.  Here's a new song we (literally) just finished writing.  We played it all the way through for the first time on this video - so enjoy!  The melodic 'ooohh ooohh ooohh' interludes are actually meant to be played on guitar, but as we were writing we wanted to hear that melody against the others in the song - so we just decided to sing it out.  As you listen, mentally insert some 'tribal drums' and it's a wrap!

I Won't Be Shaken :: TRIBE & TONGUE from TRIBE & TONGUE on Vimeo.

I WON'T BE SHAKEN

You've overcome the world on my behalf - I know, Oh I know
You conquer death with life and give hope back - I know, Oh I know
And in Your eyes I am Your favorite one - I know, Oh I know
And in Your presence my fear comes undone - I know, Oh I know

Your love is greater
I won't be shaken

There is a flood of freedom flowing down - I know, oh I know
There is a healing wind, I hear the sound - I know, oh I know
And in the name of Jesus darkness flees - I know, oh I know
The thirst of death was quenched and I am free -  I know, oh I know

There is nothing that can separate me
From Your Love, from Your Love
The whole earth bows down at Your Feet, Lord
And we will praise You, we'll praise You

AN INTRODUCTION

God is constantly pouring his presence over us all.  He's welling up inside of us - giving us the words to speak in the exact moment they need to be realized; the note to sing in the exact moment it needs to be heard; and the color to paint in the exact moment it needs to be seen.

Hello.

We are Shane and Kayla Lance. Husband and wife. This is TRIBE & TONGUE.

This blog is a space for us to present all of the creativity that God is flowing through us.  Mostly through song. Sometimes through paint.  We'll be posting about our creative process as we write songs.  We'll talk about our heart behind lyrics, and what God spoke to us as we wrote.  Often we'll include a video clip of a very acoustic version of the song.  Sometimes Kayla will post paintings.  And sometimes we'll post whatever want!

This is going to be fun.

MORE THAN BEFORE

We come from a rich heritage.  Strong, God loving families who've engrained in us a hunger for more of God, and passed down the torch of the spirit of revival.  We grew up as kids playing under church seats while only feet away men and women were being radically shaken by the presence of God.  We've seen and heard the amazing move of God in many ways.  We've seen belligerently drunk alcoholics sober up immediately at the snap of God's righteous fingers.  We've seen the sick healed and made whole.  We've seen death cast out and heard life spoken back in.  We've seen the tormented given peace and a complete, restful mind.  We've seen families that are deeply broken put back together and fully restored.  We've seen the Holy Spirit's overwhelming presence put an entire room full of people face down before God.  And we've personally encountered God's love, and joy, and grace, and peace, and the move of his precious Holy Spirit.

But we want more than before.  More.  MORE.  And because we know God is faithful - we expect it!  Here it comes...

MORE THAN BEFORE (Behind the lyrics)

We’ve felt Your presence on the mountain top
From the pooowwwerful story of Elijah in 1 Kings.  One of our favorites.  "The Lord Said 'Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.'" 1 Kings 19:11
We’ve seen Your glory rising in the clouds
After Jesus was raised from the dead, he spoke to the disciples, and they watched as he ascended into heaven. "And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight." Acts 1:9
We’ve heard Your voice command the storm to stop
"He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!" Mark 4:37-38
You’ve healed the sick and broken in the crowd
"When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague."  Mark 5:27-29

We want more
Than before

Come like a raging wind
Fill us with fire again
Ohhhh we love the story of Pentecost! On that day, they all met in the upper room to seek God, and his presence showed up like never before.  "Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were fill with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them." Acts 2:2-3
You are the mighty King
Consuming everything, Lord
"Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire." Hebrews 12:28-29

Come like a raging wind
Fill us with fire again
You are the Risen One
It's finished it is done, Lord
"Jesus said "It is finished". John 19:30. And after 3 days in the tomb, Jesus conquered death.  Not just for himself in that moment, but for all people, and for all time. There is no argument to be had. No debt to be paid. It's done.  Because he did it.

All we want is you
Nothing else will do
